A Radio-Frequency Identification (RFID) reader and an optical sensor by Herrmann Ultrasonics are designed to provide safety during the changing of welding tools during production.
The RFID, integrated into the sonotrode and fixture, “guarantees that the right tool is installed for the production,” according to Ultrasonics.

“The ultrasonic welding system automatically associates the correct parameter setting for parts to be welded with the installed tooling. Medical device manufacturers will benefit from this new feature as it adds immense production security.”
The optical sensor confirms that prior to an ultrasonic welding process, the correct shape has been placed into the fixture, color as well. If the correct shape and color are not in the fixture, the process is stopped and the sensor alarms the operator.
These features can be used in the HQ series ultrasonic welding machines, the HiQ DIALOG and the Hiq VARIO without the need of external hardware or software.
