Schurter is touting the company’s 4761 and 4762 waterproof push/pull appliance coupler set as a solution to the increasing need for safe and reliable power supplies to meet ingress protection requirements in medical applications.
This appliance coupler is used for supplying a strong reliable connection and features a breakaway cable for overuse. It features a blue shape and color on the pull-out mechanism that indicates the pull-out direction. When it is connected, a clear catch sound can be heard. These features secure the plugged connections from accidentally being pulled out which can interfere with measurement analysis or cause critical situations when monitoring patients.
The connectors can be submerged in water temporarily and cleaned with high-pressure hot water cleaners to meet the demand for splash water impermeability in applications that can withstand cleaning and disinfection. To be able to do this, appliance couplers must have a protection rating of IP65 or higher to be able to withstand fluids from ultrasonic cleaning devices, suction devices, analysis equipment or infusion pumps.
Schurter’s 4761 and 4762 appliance couplers are rated IP67 when connected and IP69K when unconnected. The protective covers also protect against pollutants that can contaminate contacts. It is also VDE and UL/CSA approved and has a maximum operating temperature of +120 °C.
