Sil-Pro announced the purchase of Sodick Plustech thermoplastic injection-molding machines and the conversion of a Liquid Silicone Rubber machine back to thermoplastics. The increased demands for thermoplastics molding has led Sil-Pro to more than double their thermoplastics capacity, which will be brought online in the fourth quarter of 2012.
The 60-ton to 100-ton machines were acquired for their larger tool size capacity as well as larger shot size, allowing Sil-Pro to meet current and future customer demands. The Sodick machines are electric hydraulic hybrid injection molding machines, which allow Sil-Pro to get the control benefits of electric machines while maintaining the injection speed of hydraulic machines. A 5-ton press was converted to thermoplastics from existing production of LSR and will be used support the increased demand for thermoplastics micro-molding.
