The company was founded by August Steinmeyer in 1920 as a precision thread grinding shop and soon began producing micrometers as its first product. In 1965, Steinmeyer began manufacturing its signature product, precision ground ball screws. Today, it employs more than 440 workers at its Albstadt, Germany headquarters, the site of its founding. Steinmeyer now crafts ground, rolled and aerospace ball screws that are used in a wide range of linear motion applications.
The company has grown to three divisions, bringing its total employment to 680. Steinmeyer Mechatronik makes custom motion systems, and Feinmess Suhl makes custom metrology systems, according to a news release.
“We are proud to be a part of a legacy that looks back on 100 years of tradition,” said Bruce Gretz, EVP of Steinmeyer’s North American subsidiary in Woburn, Mass.
