Sterigenics International said today that it has changed the name of its parent company to Sotera Health, with Nelson Labs, Nordion and Sterigenics as Sotera’s three operating companies.
The new name drew its inspiration from the name of the Greek goddess of safety, Soteria, and is meant to reflect the company’s commitment to global health.
Sotera Health (Broadview Heights, Ohio) provides lab and comprehensive sterilization services, and a global supply of radioisotopes, for the the medical device, pharmaceutical, tissue and food industries. The company has 62 facilities in 13 countries – and more than 6,000 customers, including three-fourths of the top 100 medical device manufacturers.
“Safeguarding Global Health is the cornerstone of our new brand and guides us in what we do each and every day,” Michael B. Petras Jr., CEO of Sotera Health, said in a news release. “It speaks to the breadth of our business and our ability to partner with our customers across their entire product-development lifecycle.”
The news came about a week after what is now Sotera Health bought Toxikon’s European division, folding it into Nelson Labs.
Sotera Health’s companies and services include:
- Nelson Labs, which provides testing and expert consulting services around the world.
- Nordion, a provider of mission-critical radioisotopes used for the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of disease.
- Sterigenics, which offers comprehensive sterilization solutions that eliminate potential health threats.
“Our new brand underscores the customers’ recognition of our more expansive partnership as they innovate in an ever-changing and increasingly regulated healthcare world,” Petras said.
Private equity firms Warburg Pincus and GTCR own Sotera Health.
