Stratasys and Desktop Metal announced that the 2 companies will be extending their strategic partnership to help speed up the accessibility and use of metal additive manufacturing.
The new partnership includes distribution efforts and outlines other go-to-market activities for the future.
As a polymer 3D printing company, Stratasys’s collaboration with Desktop Metal’s metal 3D printing is designed to bring metal 3D printing to more engineering teams. Through this partnership, customers will be able to work with Stratasys resellers who will be representing Desktop Metal solutions.
“Stratasys has always been focused on providing customers with cutting-edge 3D printing innovation with our PolyJet and FDM solutions. Today our offerings are used by customers worldwide – across automotive, aerospace, healthcare, education and consumer products – to achieve rapid prototyping, tooling and manufacturing processes,” said CEO of Stratasys Ilan Levin in a press release. “As one of the early investors in Desktop Metal, we realize customers are seeking additional ways to incorporate metal into their essential design and manufacturing processes. Today’s announcement takes this commitment one step further – empowering global manufacturers and engineers to expedite product development cycles by producing both plastic and metal parts in office-friendly and production-based environments.”
Desktop Metal has a new office-friendly metal 3D printing solution that is up to 10 times less expensive for engineering teams than other metal 3D printers. It is able to produce highly complex metal parts and assemblies with metal 3D printing without the need to leave the office.
Combining Stratasys’ FDM-based F123 Series and Desktop Metal’s Studio System, both companies suggest that customers can benefit from both technologies to expedite product development cycles by being able to produce plastic and metal prototypes from within the office.
“Working with well-respected strategic partners like Stratasys adds critical capabilities for broadening access to our metal 3D printing systems,” said CEO and co-founder of Desktop Metal Rig Fulop. “The addition of Stratasys’ network of resellers allows us to deliver more effectively to our market and also enables Stratasys’ customers to gain access to Desktop Metal’s systems while retaining the service and support they have come to expect.”
