“Talk less, listen more and find people that you can learn from, that you can brainstorm with,” she said.
Mathieson offered that advice on our DeviceTalks Weekly podcast, where she also detailed Stryker’s growing digital health portfolio and dove into why medtech innovation is moving so quickly.

Mathieson joined Stryker as an account manager in 2008 after beginning her career in the food industry. In over 17 years with the medtech giant, she has served as business unit director, VP and GM of Stryker’s Acute Care division before her promotion to president of Stryker Medical in 2024.
“I’m fortunate enough at Stryker to have had some incredible mentors that I’ve had the opportunity to learn from over the years,” Mathieson said.
Stryker Medical lies within the company’s larger MedSurg and Neurotechnology business segment, which reported over $15 billion in sales in 2025.
Mathieson’s division focuses on improving patient outcomes by making healthcare professionals’ jobs easier.
“It’s always been about what are the tools and resources we can create and innovate around to make care teams’ lives easier and help them provide better care across the continuum of care,” Mathieson said.
Recently, she oversaw the launch of Stryker’s SmartHospital platform, an AI-driven operating system designed to improve hospital workflow. Mathieson says SmartHospital focuses on addressing healthcare’s biggest challenges and reducing operational complexity by connecting devices, data and care teams onto a single digital ecosystem.
“The way in which healthcare is currently being delivered is not sustainable,” she said.
