Stryker announced this week their intention to purchase SafeAir, a manufacturer of surgical smoke evacuation solutions. Based out of Switzerland, the acquired company has a product portfolio that consists of the SafeAir Smoke Pencil, the Safe Air Telescopic Smoke Pencil, a related smoke evacuator, and a series of accessories to adapt the devices to a wide range of electrosurgical procedures.
“This acquisition aligns with Stryker’s focus of providing solutions that result in a higher quality of care and level of safety for both healthcare professionals and patients,” Stryker’s group president of MedSurg and Neurotechnology, Timothy J. Scannell, said in a statement.
The SafeAir products will join an array of similar surgical safety devices in the Stryker stable, such as the Neptune E-SEP Smoke Evacuation Pencil.
No monetary amounts or other specific terms of the deal were shared. Pending approvals, the acquisition is expected to close in late 2018.
