Tamperproof E-Pill Dispenser May Improve Opioid Addiction Treatment

November 18, 2015 By e-pill Medication Reminders

New e-pill MedTime SAFE is used in medication assisted maintenance treatment programs to safely administer buprenorphine or methadone in the patient’s own home (take home).

Prescription drug abuse is common, 1 in 20 people (12 and older) admitted to using prescription painkillers recreationally according to the CDC. Addiction to opioid pain killers is an epidemic plaguing many patients and their families across all 50 states. Medication-Assisted Treatment for Opioid Addiction have been proven to be very effective drug rehabilitation, but often require the patient to make daily visits to a clinic (methadone) or is based on the assumption that the patient will be able to take medications on a regular steady basis at home and not overdose on certain days (buprenorphine).

Boston based e-pill Medication Reminders (www.epill.com / legal name e-pill, LLC) today released an improved tamper proof automatic pill dispenser. The new and improved e-pill MedTime SAFE provides extra safe guards to guarantee that the patient only has access to the right medicine, at the right time and at the right dosage and can securely administer medications up to six (6) times per day. “This e-pill Medication Reminder is designed to be used in medication assisted maintenance treatment programs to safely administer oral buprenorphine or oral methadone in the patient’s own home (take home),” says Stefan Solvell, President and Manager e-pill, LLC. “It will prevent the user and those around them from taking too much medication.”

The e-pill MedTime SAFE helps patients who face the challenges of prescription drug addiction, or have a problem of taking more pills than are prescribed. This new locked e-pill dispenser only gives the patient access to their medications when they are due. This innovative device allows the patient to continue to go to work or school while taking their medications as prescribed without a daily visit to a clinic or running the risk of taking too much medication.

The e-pill MedTime SAFE is specially designed to prevent the patient as well as others in the household from accessing medications that are not scheduled to be dispensed at that time. Metal construction, four independent locks and double walls provide multiple levels of security. The automatic pill dispenser itself has a lock for the pharmacist, two independent locks on the metal case operated by the clinic nurse, and a fourth lock allows the patient to secure the e-pill MedTime SAFE to a certain location in their own home.
