Touch on Friday announced a partnership with DAQRI to add augmented reality capabilities to the simulations using DAQRI smart glasses.
“To date, we have delivered our content to surgeons via mobile devices in preparation for entering the OR. Our latest developments in augmented reality platforms allows us to extend our support to the surgeons across the world,” Dr. Jean Nehme, London-based Touch Surgery’s co-founder and CEO, said in a news release.
Touch Surgery was promoting augmented reality content at CES 2017 in Las Vegas this week, according to TechCrunch.
“We believe that DAQRI smart glasses are the ideal device for the surgical theater and are excited about the possibilities that AR and VR bring to the healthcare industry,” said Brian Mullins, DAQRI’s founder and CEO.
Touch Surgery also announced some significant hires: Paul Ryan, vice president of content and former head of technologies at Industrial Light and Magic, and Danail Stoyanov, R&D lead and assistant professor of surgical computer vision at University College London.Touch Surgery has also been garnering attention in the medical device space as a potential value add to medical device products. Last year, Johnson & Johnson’s Ethicon subsidiary announced a partnership with Touch to develop surgical simulations related to Ethicon products.
