Trelleborg, through its business unit Trelleborg Sealing Solutions, signed an agreement to acquire Specialty Silicone Fabricators Inc., a U.S.-based privately owned manufacturer of high-precision silicone components for medical technology original equipment manufacturers. The acquired company is a significant player in the high growth U.S. life sciences market, providing Trelleborg with a strong platform for future development.

SSF is headquartered in Tustin, CA, and has production facilities in Tustin and Paso Robles, CA, as well as in Elk Rapids, MI. Sales amounted to approximately SEK 330 million ($40 million) in 2015. The bolt-on acquisition is part of Trelleborg’s strategy to strengthen its positions in what it considers to be attractive market segments.

“The acquired company differentiates itself by focusing on advanced, challenging applications and by providing support and value to the customer from initial design – a similar positioning and approach to Trelleborg,” Claus Barsøe, president of Trelleborg Sealing Solutions, said in a statement.

Trelleborg supplies engineered polymer products that seal, damp and protect critical applications in demanding environments. The Specialty Silicone Fabricators transaction is expected to be finalized shortly.
