Steinach, Switzerland-based Variosystems said it will gradually integrate Schurter Solutions manufacturing facilities in Mendrisio, Switzerland, and Gruiu, Romania, including the business’s customers and 280 employees.
Variosystems said those two locations will double its production capacity in Europe, with the Gruiu facility focusing on high-volume programs that require highest cost competitiveness.
The Mendrisio facility will work with customers in the Northern Italian, French and Swiss Romand markets as the company’s second VARIOincubator hub, focused on engineering, rapid-prototyping and low-volume production services to shorten time-to-market for customers and reduce product costs.
Variosystems has another VARIOincubator hub in Zizers, Switzerland.
Variosystems CEO Stephan Sonderegger said the July 1 acquisition expands his company’s electronics development and rapid prototyping expertise and strengthens its European supply chain.

Schurter said the deal ensures “long-term job security and pooling resources for the ongoing development of its core business.”
“Schurter Solutions has established itself as a first-class address for all-inclusive solutions and is now moving to Variosystems, where it will be in the best of hands,” Schurter CEO Lars Brickenkamp said in the release. “Together, we are setting the course for the successful further development and will remain closely connected as a partner in the future.”
