Accelerating innovation is an easy-to-say, hard-to-do concept. In many ways, product development has sped up to a breakneck pace in the last 20 years due to CAD advances, automation, 3D printing, rapid protoyping, to name only a few technologies. Toolkits and methodologies have also expanded to include lean and agile principles, for example. The way medtech businesses develop products looks nothing like it did even 10 years ago.So, when you hear “medtech needs to innovate faster,” it can be difficult to know where we go from here. So, when you hear “medtech needs to innovate faster,” it can be difficult to know where we go from here. But there are still insights out there to help engineer and design teams bump up their process. Ashish Kulkarni, chief technology officer of Avantor, which recently merged with Nusil, brings some new ideas from the pharma, materials, and automobile worlds. He has principles to share from his perspective of creating drug delivery products.

Kulkarni calls it his Go model, and admits he’s borrowed all of the ideas from different types of industries. And that’s a good thing. “There are ways in which you can learn from different industries on how to accelerate innovation in this industry,” Kulkarni says .
