Medtronic recently recognized Weiss-Aug as one of the top 12 suppliers from its 48,000 worldwide vendor base for the second year in a row.
A manufacturer of precision metal stamping, insert molding and assembly, Weiss-Aug has collaborated for more than 25 years with R&D teams at Medtronic’s Boulder, Colo. and North Haven, Conn. locations on the development and manufacture of surgical instrument components and sub-assemblies.
“Weiss-Aug is proud to be recognized by Medtronic with this ‘Supplier Excellence’ award,” said Elisabeth Weissenrieder-Bennis, EVP for surgical products and Weiss-Aug Mexico, in a prepared statement. “We continue to focus on improving its R&D capabilities, work to implement new technologies that reduce our time to market and always strive to provide Medtronic with the best quality products.”
The company received the award during a conference Nov. 6-7 at the Minneapolis Marriott Northwest in Brooklyn Park, Minn.
Criteria for the award included a commitment to innovation, service, quality and value. In previous years, Weiss-Aug supported the development and launch of numerous sophisticated sub-assembly projects for Medtronic, totaling more than 30 discrete components.
The strategic partnership with Medtronic started in 1990. Both companies have grown tremendously and changed in the past two decades. In the past three years alone, Weiss-Aug has launched a plant in Monterrey, Mexico to better support the strategic needs of Medtronic, and invested in new technologies for machining, metal stamping, secondary processing and insert molding.
Weiss-Aug’s surgical products division just expanded its prototyping capabilities by installing best-in-class laser cutting and etching technology. Its new laser lab center optimizes prototype fabrication and supports low-volume production programs, the company said.
