Stamping, or pressing or sheet metal fabrication, is the process of placing flat sheet metal in either blank or coil form into a stamping press, where tool and die surfaces form the metal into a net shape. Stamping includes a variety of manufacturing processes, such as punching, using a machine press or stamping press, blanking, embossing, bending, flanging, and coining. Sheet metal is metal formed into thin and flat pieces. It is one of the main materials used in metalworking, and can be cut and bent into many different shapes.
