Postcards are a nice surprise in the mail from our loved ones while they vacation on beaches and venture through mountains, but what about a postcard that provides a urine test kit.
TestCard has now created a postcard with an embedded, pullout urine test that provides immediate results with an accompanying mobile app. The TestCard combines both the accuracy of a medical lab test with mobile technology to deliver immediate results for pregnancy tests, urinary tract infections, and glucose levels.
At $4 a pop, the tests arrive in sets of three, and the user simply applies urine to the pull-out strip (applicator). It takes about 20 seconds for the paper to obtain a reading, and then the smartphone app does the rest of the diagnosing for you. The in-app camera scans both the QR code and colored squares, and immediate results are delivered to the device. A clear interpretation of the results are given, such as “You have tested: Negative. You do not have a UTI.”
The company hopes to expand future tests to scan for prostate cancer and sexually transmitted infections. Although no one’s receiving these postcards yet, people will be able check their mail for TestCards in the UK starting in April and the US in July.
