Via Surgical said that the FDA has cleared its FasTouch absorbable fixation system intended for fixation of prosthetic material to soft tissues.
Amirim, Israel-based-based Via Surgical’s FasTouch enables automated lockable surgical mesh fixation that is strong and stable yet easily and consistently delivered, according to the company. It is designed for use in minimally invasive and open surgical procedures such as hernia repairs.
“We are closing the loop on soft tissue fixation,” said Via Surgical co-founder and CEO Ofek Levin. “The forces on an implanted hernia mesh are dynamic in nature and could significantly fluctuate due to coughing, movements, etc. A stable and trustworthy fixation is crucial for a successful repair. Our data clearly demonstrate that a lockable solution is more reliable in such a dynamic environment and minimizes the risk of tack migration or dislodgement that may lead to complications and hernia recurrences.”
The FDA approved Via Surgical’s original FasTouch system in 2014. FasTouch Absorbable will be exclusively distributed in the U.S. by Progressive Medical.
