Aesculap Implant Systems announced the implantation of the univation X Unidondylar Knee System on April 9, 2014. This case marks the first implantation for Aesculap’s univation X fixed knee implant worldwide and marked the limited launch of the implant for the U.S. market. The univation X Unicondylar Knee System features a fixed platform and peg and fin design to treat medial knee defects.
The fixed platform and anatomical design of the univation X Unicondylar Knee System provides optimal stability with minimal cuts to preserve bone. All univation X knee components come standard with the 7-layer Advanced Surface coating, which has demonstrated significant wear reduction and mechanical integrity.1 The IQ Instrument platform offers streamlined, user-friendly instrumentation to optimize surgical time and allow for intra-operative flexibility.
“This new implant represents an exciting advancement in unicondylar knee replacement. The patented Advanced Surface coating provides additional benefits for surgeons and patients alike. Aesculap is excited to be able to offer a complete selection of knee implants with this Advanced Surface coating,” said Chuck DiNardo, President – Aesculap.
The univation X Unicondylar Knee System received FDA 510k clearance in October 2013; full, commercial availability of the univation X Unicondylar Knee System is planned for first quarter 2015. Please contact Aesculap Implant Systems at 800-234-9179 for more information.
With the addition of the unicondylar knee, Aesculap Implant Systems offers a complete suite of knee replacement products from partial knee to total knee to knee revision.
