“Increased demand in medical device manufacturing has accelerated our plans for global expansion,” the medtech sterilization provider and device manufacturer said in a news release announcing the expansion at its Venlo ethylene oxide (EtO or EO) and X-ray processing facility.
Steris is the world’s 23rd-largest medical device company, according to our 2026 Medtech Big 100 ranking by revenue.
The lab expansion at Alajuela, Costa Rica, will complement the facility’s EtO processing operations and nearby electron beam (E-beam) facility.
“The Costa Rica laboratory expansion demonstrates Steris’s commitment to investing where our customers need us most,” Steris Applied Sterilization Technologies Laboratories Director Annette Eckman said in a news release. “Establishing laboratory testing capabilities near a key medical device manufacturing center allows us to simplify validation processes, accelerate timelines, and provide a seamless experience through a single trusted partner for testing and sterilization services.”
Steris said it plans to seek ISO 17025 accreditation for the expanded lab.
