Excelitas Technologies has completed its acquisition of Axsun Technologies after announcing plans to purchase the company on Dec. 12, 2018. The financial details of the deal were not disclosed.
The acquisition expands Excelitas Technologies portfolio to include high-performance products for the life sciences and industrial OEM industries, including its photonics portfolio for the medical and industrial markets.
“We are very pleased to add Axsun’s OCT (optical coherence tomography) expertise and leading-edge laser light-engine technology to complement our diverse sensing and illumination portfolio. This strategic acquisition will continue to build upon our medical products offering and allow us to address the ever-increasing performance needs of our highly valued OEM customers,” Michael Ersoni, executive VP at Excelitas, said.
Axsun will continue to operate out of its Billerica, Mass. facilities as the two companies begin to integrate. The company currently develops MEMS-based light engines for medical imaging and spectroscopy applications.
The acquisition of Axsun is Excelitas sixth acquisition since the company was founded in 2010 and its second since Excelitas was purchased by AEA investors in December 2017.
