Longtime Maxon CEO Eugen Elmiger will hand over the reins of the Swiss robotics motor manufacturer to Deputy CEO and Chief Operating Officer Andreas Richter early next year.

After 35 years at the company (including 15 as CEO), Elmiger will step aside in March 2027 and become vice chair of the board to focus on Maxon’s strategic plans.

Elmiger joined the firm in 1991, when it was known as Interelectric ag. Since then, sales have grown from 50 million Swiss francs to nearly 600 million, while Maxon’s headcount has grown from about 400 employees to more than 3,000.

“This is the right time to hand over responsibility to the next generation,” Elmiger said in a news release.

Richter joined Maxon 2020 as COO, responsible for overseeing the group’s production sites.

Chief Technology Officer Stefan Müller will become deputy CEO, while the new COO will be Daniel von Wyl, currently the managing director of the Sachseln production site for maxon motor ag. His position, in turn, will be filled by Dominik Stockmann, head of development at the Sachseln site near Lucerne.

“With Andreas Richter, we are gaining a CEO who knows Maxon exceptionally well and will consistently drive the future development of our company,” said Bianca Braun, who became chair of the board last year to succeed her father, principal shareholder Karl-Walter Braun.
