Vermont-based advanced manufacturing company opens new China facility and launches Vermont expansion

February 9, 2016 By MDO Editor

GW Plastics announced at the MD&M West 2016 Exposition in Anaheim, CA, the completion of a major expansion of their state-of-the-art Dongguan, China facilities in response to their rapidly growing medical device contract manufacturing business.

Through this expansion, GW Plastics has more than doubled the size of their plant, and their new 125,000 sq. ft. facility will permit the company to streamline their tooling, molding and medical device assembly operations while leaving significant room for future contract manufacturing growth. Now fully operational, the new facilities feature product development and in-house tool building services, scientific injection molding capabilities to ensure device standardization, and both automated and manual assembly services. The company plans to enhance their Asia manufacturing capabilities with Liquid Silicone Rubber (LSR) injection molding, as well as customer product development support with increased prototyping, bridge tooling, mold sampling and short-run production.

GW DongguanAt the same time, GW Plastics has also broken ground on an expansion of their Royalton, VT facilities. This 21,000 sq. ft. expansion—scalable to 50,000 sq. ft.—will accommodate additional growth of its Thermoplastic and LSR injection molding and medical device contract assembly business. Expected to be complete later this spring, the expansion will allow for an additional 30 injection molding machines, an enlarged Class 8 LSR cleanroom and an expansion of its Scientific Molding Process Development and Training Center. This expansion will allow GW Plastics’ affiliate, GW Silicones, to add needed capacity to support ongoing growth. GW Silicones now offers internal LSR tool building capabilities, flash-less molding, automated assembly and optical grade LSR molding.

With the expansions of its facilities in the US and China, GW Plastics provides their customers with the option to commercialize a project domestically in the United States or in a low-cost country (LCCS), delivering a flexible, yet cost-effective manufacturing alternative that many companies cannot offer.

Global market-leading companies trust GW Plastics to deliver their most challenging projects. To learn more about how their contract manufacturing capabilities can help you succeed with your next project, visit their booth #1909 at the MD&M West 2016 Exposition in Anaheim, CA this February 9 to 11.
