With the benefits of in-house mold design-and-build, GW Plastics announces the expansion of in-house, liquid silicone rubber (LSR) tooling at their affiliate, GW Silicones. Shortly after founding GW Silicones, the company realized that offering in-house tooling capabilities would maximize efficiency and component quality, as well as improve responsiveness to clients. Understanding the differences and complexities of silicone versus thermoplastic tooling, GW Silicones’ team developed a reliable LSR tooling standard to ensure that fine details and tight tolerances are maintained for years of trouble-free production.
By hiring tool designers who have trained with the best in the world, GW can now bring a level of confidence to its LSR tooling. In addition to having the right design team, building precision LSR tooling requires advanced technological capabilities, a zero-defect culture and high levels of design integrity.
Within the past year, the company has successfully built and qualified multiple complex 32 cavity LSR slide molds, greatly expanding its internal capabilities. Because of their in-house LSR tool design-and-build expertise, the company has been able to continuously offer the option of building high cavitation, fully-automated and tight tolerance LSR molds at a lower cost.
GW Plastics has invested millions of dollars into its Tooling Division during the past few years to include more automation and improved technologies, providing additional resources to expand into LSR tooling.
“Working closely with our in-house tool shop has allowed for this type of flexibility, improvement and growth,” said Mark Hammond, a general manager at GW Silicones.
Having in-house LSR tooling capabilities provides many benefits to GW Plastics’ customers. By creating a “one-stop shop” environment, GW Plastics has proven that it can provide improved time-to-market and cost efficiency through their tooling process.
