Sharing a bed with a constantly snoring partner can be a real drag. You’re kept awake and end up resentful at your bedmate because of the constantly interrupted sleep – through no fault of the snoring partner. Often, you end up waking them up to stop the snoring and try and speed back to sleep, but now both parties’ rest is ruined.
Enter Nora, the first non-invasive snoring device that stops snoring before a sleeping partner is awakened, currently being funded on Kickstarter. Here’s how it works: an insert is placed inside of your pillow – any one will do – and is padded so you can sleep in any position. The “bedsider,” an audio sensor that picks up snoring sounds better than the human ear, switches on when vibrations from snoring are detected. It then sends a signal to noiselessly inflate the pillow insert, powered by a mini-pump stored next to or under the bed, raising your head to the optimal throat muscle relaxing position and stopping the snoring before your partner wakes up. An accompanying mobile app tracks the time and intensity of each snoring session, providing customization and health tips if necessary.
Hopefully Nora will improve the quality of sleep and lead to less early AM nudging and pillows over the ears. According to the company, early tests have been positive for couples using the prototype. Check out Nora in the video below!
