The company’s PTFE Natural Family of Coating Solutions is used as a critical manufacturing aid and as a functional coating across complex delivery systems and guidewire applications, on components including guidewires, pull wires, mandrels, and hypotubes. Operating from two facilities in Norwood, Massachusetts, Applied Plastics serves OEMs and contract manufacturers worldwide.
Hanley joins Applied Plastics from Resonetics, where he served as Vice President of the Lightspeed Lab. He brings more than two decades of medtech experience in interventional and advanced surgical device markets. His background spans product development, operations, quality, and commercialization for Class I, II, and III devices across original equipment manufacturers (OEMs), growth stage companies, and contract development and manufacturing organizations, including senior leadership roles overseeing R&D and operations. He holds a B.S. in Mechanical Engineering and an MBA from Northeastern University.
“Brian brings the right experience to Applied Plastics,” said Tom Barrett, Chief Executive Officer of Applied Plastics. “He has spent more than two decades building and scaling medtech businesses, and he understands both the engineering and the commercial sides of this work. I’ll continue as CEO through the end of 2026, and I’ll remain involved with the business through my role as an Operating Partner at Vance Street Capital. Applied Plastics is known for quality, service, and reliability, and that commitment will not change.”
“Applied Plastics has built a strong reputation around its PTFE Natural coating platform and the engineers who depend on it, and I’m looking forward to building on that,” said Brian Hanley, President of Applied Plastics. “I want to thank Tom for his support as I join the team. My focus will be on serving our customers with the product performance, quality, and responsiveness they have come to rely on.”
“Under Tom’s leadership, Applied Plastics has grown into a trusted PTFE coating partner to the medtech industry,” said Mike Janish, Managing Partner at Vance Street Capital. “We are grateful for all he has contributed and glad he will remain involved with the business. Brian’s track record in medtech commercialization and operations makes him a valuable addition as the company builds on that success, and we look forward to supporting him and the team in the years ahead.”
