A small hook on the tail of Zipline’s drones allows it to fly between two towers and snag a suspended cable, which lowers the Zip aircraft to the ground. [Photo courtesy of Zipline]
Instead, the drone flies through a pair of metal towers, between which hangs an elastic cable that snags the drone right out of the air and gently lowers it to the ground.
The flight ops team then takes the drone apart, puts the battery on a charger and stores the components for the next run.
The entire process can be completed in as little as 15 minutes.
