Masimo recently announced that it has received FDA clearance for its respiration rate measurement from the pleth RRp on its MightySat Rx spot-check fingertip pulse oximeter. It was also indicated for use in the home.
Using the company’s RRp in MightSat Rx, respiration rate can be measured using the same optical sensor that measures SpO2, PR, Pi and PVi. The RRp is only given when the respiratory movement-induced signal is available in the pulsatile waveform and may not be available during conditions like irregular breathing or excessive movements.
The RRp on MightySat Rx offers a convenient, fast and portable option. It features the same measure-through motion and Low Perfusion SET pulse oximetry that is available in a number of Masimo bedside monitors.
MightySat Rx is small and lightweight and has an IP23 ingress rating. It provides about 1,800 spot checks and is available in black and white. The MightySat Rx also features a high-resolution color display that displays plethysmographic waveforms and has a Bluetooth wireless interface to the Masimo Professional Health mobile application that allowed for tracking, viewing trends and communicating measurements.
