TUSTIN, Calif.–(BUSINESS
WIRE)–Based on proven success at Millard Fillmore Gates Circle Hospital
triaging stroke patients, Kaleida Health installed a second AquilionTM ONE from
Toshiba America Medical Systems, Inc., at Buffalo General Medical Center in
Buffalo, N.Y. As the only CT system capable of imaging an entire organ in one
rotation, Buffalo General uses Aquilion ONE to rapidly diagnose emergency
department (ED) patients.
“When every second counts, diagnostic accuracy and workflow
are critical in the ED,” said Michael Miller, M.D., staff radiologist, Buffalo General Medical Center.
“Aquilion ONE enables us to diagnose a range of at-risk patient conditions,
from stroke to chest pain, quickly and reliably. We often rely on its
ultra-helical scanning mode, which produces high-quality images with fewer
motion artifacts, for accurate diagnoses of acute patient conditions, such as
chest pain.”
The Aquilion ONE dynamic volume CT system covers up to 16 cm
of anatomy using 320 ultra-high-resolution 0.5 mm detector elements. The system
can show an organs dynamic blood flow and real-time function. With Aquilion
ONEs 160-detector row ultra-helical scan mode, physicians can image a
patients entire chest, abdomen and pelvis in fewer than five seconds, 2.5
times faster than 64-detector row imaging.
In addition, Buffalo General is utilizing Aquilion ONE for
cardiac CTA and torso CTA, providing surgical staff with accurate information
for transcatheter aortic valve implantation (TAVI) procedures. Buffalo General
also uses Toshibas dose reduction features, Adaptive Iterative Dose Reduction
(AIDR) and SUREExposureTM technologies, to make exams safer for patients.
“Aquilion ONE is designed for the ED, as it reduces
diagnosis time from hours to minutes,” said Joseph Cooper, director, CT
Business Unit, Toshiba. “As Kaleida Health experienced at Millard Fillmore,
Aquilion ONEs uniquely comprehensive exam can reduce costs, enhance workflow
and improve lives through faster, more accurate diagnoses.”
