Researchers at Vanderbilt University are developing surgical robots that are able to sense the medical environment during procedures and adjust on their own. According to Nabil Simaan, PhD, a professor of mechnical engineering and otolaryngology at the university, his flexible robot can automatically make adjustments when it encounters a part of the body it shouldn’t, handling the necessary repositioning so the surgeon can concentrate on other portions of the procedure.
