Olympus recently announced a new version of its SONICBEAT surgical device. The new SONICBEAT will broaden and enhance the entire Olympus THUNDERBEAT portfolio.
SONICBEAT is an innovative Ultrasonic energy device with Olympus’ revolutionary jaw design. It delivers rapid cutting and reliable 5mm vessel sealing from a single multifunctional hand instrument. The surgical instrument’s wiper jaw design distributes pressure evenly along the jaw length for consistent sealing. With excellent tip grasping force, precise dissection via a fine tip design and wide opening aperture, the instrument delivers rapid and precise surgical control in dissection and grasping.
SONICBEAT is available in four lengths (10, 20, 35 and 45 cm) and now three handle designs to meet a variety of surgical needs. SONICBEAT is intended for use in open, laparoscopic (including single-site) and general surgery. It is used to cut (dissect) vessels in gynecologic, thoracic, urologic and endoscopic surgical procedures.
Energy devices can be used in all forms of surgical intervention, but they play a particularly important role in today’s minimally invasive surgeries replacing traditional sealing devices such as sutures, clips and staples.
Designed with performance and patient safety in mind, Olympus’ products help physicians deliver value to patients and help healthcare facilities meet the following key healthcare reform initiatives:
- Increased Quality of Care: Olympus’ therapeutic energy platforms contribute to easier, more precise access to complicated anatomy, potentially reducing the risks of trauma and complications.
- Decreased Costs: SONICBEAT is part of the THUNDERBEAT platform, the only system that delivers every common form of energy used in surgery today. It was designed to enhance procedural efficiencies and reduce the overall OR footprint.
- Enhanced Patient Satisfaction: Olympus’ therapeutic devices help physicians access difficult-to-reach anatomy and provide treatment to patients in need so they can have a better quality of life.
SONICBEAT is part of Olympus’ energy device portfolio that includes the world’s only fully-integrated bipolar and ultrasonic technology, THUNDERBEAT. The SONICBEAT device offers surgeons the flexibility of an ultrasonic-only option. The system will be showcased at the American College of Surgeons Clinical Congress from October 4 to 8 in Chicago. Healthcare providers are invited to visit the Olympus booth #1025 for a product demonstration.
