The 107,600-square-foot facility in Grecia is the medical device contract development and manufacturing organization’s first site in Central America. It’s capabilities include liquid silicone rubber molding, dipping, thermoplastic production, assembly and cleanroom production.
“We want to provide customers with finished medical devices, components and assemblies in one location,” Trelleborg Medical Solutions President Linda Muroski said in a news release. “By producing the components at a single site and moving them to assembly under one roof, we reduce freight costs and management of multiple vendors for our customers, saving them money so they can be more competitive and profitable. We are creating reliable solutions that empower our customers to deliver life-saving medical devices to patients all over the world.”
The facility has solar-ready roofing, energy efficient building systems and landscaping designed for water conservation, Trelleborg Medical Device Solutions Operations President Yonatan Necoechea said.
“The new facility is designed for long-term sustainability,” he said. ” … We are committed to achieving Leadership in Energy & Environmental Design (LEED) certification and have prioritized environmental stewardship from the earliest stages of planning through to construction. Every element of this facility — from its eco-friendly materials to advanced resource management systems — demonstrates our ongoing dedication to responsible growth.”
The facility is in Alajuela Province’s Evolution Industrial Park, near Juan Santamaria International Airport with direct access to Costa Rica’s main highways and port. Trelleborg says its proximity to Costa Rica’s main western cities offers a large supply of qualified workers.
“Costa Rica has a strong pool of highly skilled professionals, backed by robust technical education and training initiatives supported by the government,” Muroski said. “This enables us to deliver consistent quality in medical manufacturing and positions the site as a leader in high-value, specialized production.”
