As with most medtech advances these days, a running theme among top surgical startups is value.

Innovators presented their surgical platform products in various stages of development at this year’s AdvaMed MedTech Conference as part of the Medtech Innovator Program, offering a view of the future of ORs across the world.

As mentioned, there are some running themes throughout these devices and the stories that startup leaders tell. They all describe value as improving patient quality and satisfaction, increasing access and ease of training, as well as reducing costs and waste for all stakeholders. They all think about data capture and how to provide real-time information to surgeons. Most important, they haven’t forgotten that a wide net of clinical value must come first.

Here are five of the most promising early-stage firms developing surgical innovations.

How do you know your technology is disruptive enough to break conventional wisdom?

textadimage Stan Rowe knows a little something about bringing disruptive technology to market. The current Edwards Lifesciences CSO was in on the ground floor of two of medtech's most disruptive treatments, stents and transcatheter aortic valve replacement.

On December 12th, Rowe will sit down with MassDevice editor Brad Perriello for a long ranging discussion about the inside story on how these technologies came to market and what Rowe learned along the way.
