ConforMIS is using 3D printing to make knee replacement surgery more personalized. The company’s implants and instruments are designed based on a patient’s CT scan. An automated design process can then map the size and shape of the knee joint in 3D. ConforMIS’s software uses the CT scan information to design implants and instruments that will precisely match the 3D model of the knee to correct arthritic deformities. After ConforMIS’s technology makes a model, the company can then 3D print a wax mold that can be used to case the femoral and tibial components of the implants. ConforMIS can also print disposable, patient-specific iJig instruments for each patient.
