SynergEyes contact lenses to include coating that improves wear time

SynergEyes will use Tangible Science’s Hydra-PEG polymer coating on its contact lenses under a new licensing agreement. Hydra-PEG enables longer wear time and convenience for contact lens users.

Tangible Hydra-PEG is designed to eliminate the discomfort that comes with contact lenses.

“Tangible Hydra-PEG is designed to solve the problem of contact lens discomfort by increasing wettability, surface water retention, tear breakup time, lubricity and deposition resistance. The positive experiences of those already wearing Duette with Tangible Hydra-PEG demonstrates the value of the coating,” said Tangible Science CEO Vic McCray, MD.

Normal contact lenses prevent moisture to the eyes by blocking tears in the eyes from circulating beneath a lipid layer, causing dryness, irritation and lens fogging. Tangible Hydra-PEG coated lenses prevent these issues by creating a mucin-like surface on the lens, protecting the eye from dryness and protein buildup, according to Tangible Science.

To begin coating contact lenses with the Tangible Hydra-PEG, lens surfaces are prepared for covalent bonding. Then the lenses are soaked in the polymers that permanently bond to the lenses.

Lenses that have been coated in Tangible Hydra-PEG coating do not have to be soaked or cleaned like traditional contact lenses, improving wear time and convenience for content lens wearers.

SynergEyes is an advanced-technology contact lens company that focuses on independent eye care professionals. They manufacture for and market hybrid contact lenses, like Duette lenses, for astigmatism and irregular corneas.

“We are very excited about our partnership with Tangible Science. Tangible Hydra-PEG will now be available on Duette, the industry-leading hybrid lens for astigmatism and presbyopia,” said SynergEyes CEO James K. Kirchner.

“With this new addition to the Duette line, SynergEyes continues to be a leader in the specialty contact lens arena, providing innovative products to bring better vision to patients,” Kirchner said.
