Cam Med
West Newton, Mass.
Founded: 2014
This medical device startup is developing a flexible, bandage-like patch pump designed to administer precise doses of drugs to patients who otherwise wouldn’t choose to wear a bulky, complex drug-delivery device.
Cam Med’s product, the Evopump, features a multi-reservoir, electrochemically actuated design that enables the patch to hold and deliver multiple medications simultaneously.
In February, the company partnered with JDRF, a funding and advocacy group for diabetes research, to develop an ultra-thin insulin patch pump that could be used with next-generation automated insulin delivery systems.
The goal of the partnership is to speed up the development of Cam Med’s Evopump so that it can be integrated into closed-loop insulin delivery systems and cut back on the overall size of the “artificial pancreas.”
