A robotics and AI-based solution for helping seniors, and caregivers.

Category: Engineering and Robotics
Subcategory: Medtech

From the winners: “Robots, smart devices, sensors, and artificial intelligence are integrated in a solution to help seniors, nurses, and caregivers at nursing homes. The system is automated planned and coordinated to perform functions of delivering items, transporting people, walking assistance, physical rehabilitation, psychological care, operations assistance, etc.”

“The idea was originated in 2018 to create an individual robot for assisting senior people. We transformed the idea from creating a single robot to integrating robots, smart devices, sensors, and AI, based on the market research and interviews with managers and caregivers. Most of the people wanted robots and AI to help them at various life domains, which triggers the redesign of the robots and the design of the whole integrated solution. All robotic prototypes had the second iteration based on the user feedback. The whole system are integrated with the software service platform and other smart devices in 2021 and tested at a real nursing home.”

“This is the first and most comprehensive solution using various robots and complex AI technology to help senior people and caregivers at nursing homes. Some frontier technology are well applied in our system, including mobile manipulation, active conversational interaction, automated task planning, physical human-robot interaction, scene understanding, etc. Compared to other individual products, our solution is more on the system-level . And the widely applied AI technology largely improves the system and the experience of the elderly and caregivers. When the solution is launched, a record number of 890K people watched the broadcast online.”
