29 cutting-edge medtech innovations recognized with Edison Awards

MicroTransponder’s Vivistim Paired VNS System

The Vivistim System helps improve upper limb mobility for stroke survivors

Category: Health, Medical and Biotech
Subcategory: Advanced Therapeutics

From the winners: “The FDA-approved Vivistim Paired VNS System is a first-of-its-kind breakthrough technology that uses vagus nerve stimulation in conjunction with in-clinic rehabilitation therapy to help generate 2-3 times more hand and arm function for ischemic stroke survivors than rehabilitation therapy alone.”

“MicroTransponder founders became interested in neuroplasticity, the process of creating or strengthening neural connections to make damaged areas of the brain viable. Their goal was to improve the quality of life for people suffering from chronic neurological conditions. Through 13 years of research, innovation, pre-clinical trials and a pivotal clinical trial, they discovered that pairing vagus nerve stimulation (VNS) with rehabilitation therapy generates 2-3 times more hand and arm function for ischemic stroke survivors than traditional rehab in just 6 weeks. Their intellectual property covers paired VNS treatment for several conditions.”

“The Vivistim Paired VNS System is the first and only medical technology that helps increase neuroplasticity, the process of creating or strengthening neural connections to make damaged areas of the brain viable, by pairing vagus nerve stimulation with rehabilitation therapy to help improve upper limb mobility for stroke survivors. MicroTransponder Inc., the manufacturer of The Vivistim Paired VNS System, holds the intellectual property that covers paired VNS treatment for several conditions.”
